Las Vegas Convention Center Buys More Land
For the second time in three months, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has snapped up an apartment complex on nearby Sierra Vista Drive for more than $10 million — assuring a windfall profit for the owner who flipped the parcel, depleting the number of affordable rental units in the area.
Still, LVCVA officials praised Tuesday’s unanimous board decision to purchase the 76-unit Sierra Madre apartment complex at 454 Sierra Vista Drive for $10.87 million as a thrifty purchase given skyrocketing real estate values in recent months. It’s also a move that will provide for at least 300 more parking spaces and improved access to and from the south hall of the convention center. The apartment complex sits on a 1.5-acre parcel.
