GE Purchases Commercial Real Estate Investment Trust

General Electric Company has agreed to buy commercial real estate investment trust Arden Realty Inc. for approximately $3.2 billion in cash making this one of the largest U.S. real estate deals in history. Arden, a publicly traded office landlord located in Southern California, maintains 18.5 million square feet in 192 buildings.
GE’s real estate group continues to be one of the fastest growing businesses, with approximately $48 billion in assets and more than $1 billion in profits as of 2004.
