NV Unemployment Up, But So Are Construction Jobs
Nevada’s unemployment rate rose to 4.5 % in July from 4.2%. It is now at its highest level in two years. Officials aren’t ready to sound the alarm yet and intend to just watch the numbers closely in the coming months. They believe the number is due in part to the loss of government jobs during the summer as a result of schools closing.
For the Las Vegas area, non-seasonally adjusted unemployment increased to 4.6% from 4.3%. Approximately 864,900 people were working in the area and the jobless total was 41,500. While many industries showed a decrease in hiring, the leisure and hospitality industry increased by 800 workers and the construction industry added 2,000 more jobs.
