Unexpected Gain in Commercial Building

A Commerce Department Report released today showed an unexpected .3% gain in August construction spending as commercial and public building offset additional declines in home building. Private nonresidential construction posted the biggest gain in August, climbing 3.4%.

Construction spending was up 4.4% compared to a year ago. In July, construction spending was down 1%.
