LV:
Southern Nevada’s continuing construction boom is stretching its construction workforce to its limits. Construction workers are in such high demand that many companies are having to resort to out-of-state recruiting, signing bonuses, flex hours, and 401(k) plans to attract the skilled labor they need to finish their projects.
According to the Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation, more than 110,000 Southern Nevadans are employed in construction trades and nearly 150,000 Nevadans are employed by construction businesses statewide. In 2007, the construction industry is expected to grow by approximately 10,000. This includes positions for heavy-equipment operators, carpenters, electricians and other craftsmen.
The Las Vegas Strip is seeing the largest surge in construction demand, with roughly $28.27 billion worth of resort expansion planned through 2010. Many local experts blame the drain on construction labor and rising labor costs on projects such as the CityCenter, Trump’s tower and the Venetian (Palazzo) tower.
